The Morningside Heights Planning Study is the product of a collaboration between the Manhattan Borough President, Speaker Corey Johnson, Council Member Mark Levine, Community Board 9, and the Morningside Heights Community Coalition to address housing needs and preserve the character of Morningside Heights. The years of advocacy by the Morningside Heights Community Coalition, Community Board 9, local elected officials, and residents show the success of ground-up community-based planning. The planning study highlights the need to encourage growth of affordable housing near transit, protect rent-stabilized units, and limit out-of-context development.
This has been a years-long effort by MHCC and other entities. It has been supported by over 1,000 petition signatures, which continue to be gathered here.
Please join us for an important Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, 6/3 at 6:30pm. to discuss the Planning Study and next steps to advancing its implementation. Your awareness and participation are needed as our neighborhood works to protect itself. RSVP is required here.
